The Rocket Fume Effect I did for short film: Troy. It is combined from four individual simulation. All used particles as source for fuel, temperature & velocity.
Turbulence and disturbance in pyro solver shape tab is animated to give more turbulence in the beginning of the animation to break the shape. They are also mapped to temperature channel to have greater effect on hotter areas.
Cached out individually as VDB and then combined to render. I used a point light animated with the shuttle movement to mimic the shuttle trail light. Didn't go with geometry light from pyro cache because it is too expensive in render at the time.
